Chapter 1

Lufue Zue woke up and wiped his eyes. "Where am I," he asked. A girl patted a wet cloth against his forehead. He felt a tinge of pain. She looked at him solemnly and patted his head again with the cloth. "Am I badly injured," he asked her. She nodded. "Do you know how long it will be till I can leave," he inquired. She shrugged and put some more anointment on the cloth.

The door opened and a man stepped through. "Glad to see that you are doing much better. We were starting to worry about you," the man commented. "Do you know who I am," Lufue asked. The man smiled. "Of course, you are Lufue Zue, ruler of New Fullerium. You hate the imperial scum as much as I do," the man commented. Lufue grinned. "So, I guess that you are definately friendly then," Lufue summed up. The man nodded.

"We will need to get you back to New Fullerium as quickly as possible though. Your attack was partially successful, but New Fullerium is under attack and they need you. If you don't return there, they may lose morale," the man informed Lufue. "I see. Well, partial success is better than none. As soon as I can, I would like to depart," Lufue said agreeingly.

"Rest and all shall be better. You have no idea how wonderful it is to see you doing much better. It is... a relief," the man informed him. Lufue looked at him and smiled. "Well, all is well that ends well," Lufue commented. The man looked at Lufue inquisitively and pondered the statement.

"It's been a while since someone has had that attitude. Is that what makes him a hope to us? He is brave and he seems to be positive. Very odd qualities for anyone in this day and age, especially someone who has lost so much," the man thought. The man looked Lufue over and commented, "I guess so. If you need anything, let us know."

Lufue tried to stand up and only partially succeeded in doing it gracefully. The nurse ran to his side and helped him lie down again. "I see it may be a few hours yet I have to remain here. Where exactly am I again," Lufue asked. The man looked at the nurse quickly in a look of pondering and then back at Lufue. "You are in West Fenia at a local pub. I'm the pub owner and if they found out I was helping you I would have to find a new head," the man told Lufue.

"I appreciate your kindness, sir. New Fullerium will never forget it neither will I. We are in your debt. Whenever you need anything, let us know," Lufue said with a smile. The man blinked twice and grinned. "You are funny. I like you. Rest up for you have a long journey ahead," the pub owner told Lufue as he left the room.

Lufue looked at the nurse. "How long have I been like this," Lufue askd her. "Not too long," she said. "Why do you help me," Lufue asked. The nurse looked down at the ground for a little while. Lufue shifted his weight and wondered what was going through her mind. "If you don't want to tell me, I can understand. There are many truths we must face alone," he told her.

She looked up briefly and smiled. "I do this for my love," she commented. Lufue grinned. "A lovely lady like you must have a wonderful husband," he said smoothly. "Alas, I am not a wife yet, but maybe one day if luck shall go my way," she commented. Lufue closed his eyes feeling a wave of searing pain.

Lufue reopened his eyes and whispered, "At least you have experienced a true two way love." The nurse looked at him and took out a special brew. "Drink this, it will make the pain go away," she told him handing him a small glass. He swallowed it down quickly. The world around him began to sway back and forth.

"Sleep. It will do you good," the nurse told him closing his eyes. Lufue nodded and began to snore softly. The nurse smiled and sat down staring at this man. He seemed to be different than most people around. He seemed to care for all. He seemed to have something she had only seen in one other person, her love.
