Love N' Hate (Part II)

Chapter 3

April walked into the bar. She was in a good mood for some strange reason. She walked around the counter and greeted the bartender. "How are you doing," she asked. "Good and I don't even have to ask you... it's way too apparent," the bartender commented. April gave him a look and grabbed the drawer. The bartender shrugged and watched her walk up the stairs.

A guy sat down at the bar. "Who's that girl," the guy asked. "Someone way out of your league, pal," the bartender told him. "Nah... no girl can be out of MY league. After all, she's pretty hot. She's not taken is she," the guy asked. The bartender laughed and smiled. "I think you've had too much of something... how strong was the drink," the bartender inquired.

"That's not even funny. I haven't had a drink yet... but I would love a Secfenian Ale," the guy requested. "As you wish, one glass of Secfenian Ale. Let me know if you care for anything else," the bartender said filling up a glass and handing it to him. The guy nodded. "So tell me about her," the guy requested.

"Alright, but first let me also give you some advice. Women are like glass. They are pretty to look at. They are pretty to hold. Some of them are better to look at from a far. You have no chance with her. Her heart is elsewhere. The guy she cares for obviously cares for her as well. There's just that certain spark," the bartender told him.

"I see... I hope that guy knows how lucky he is," the guy commented. "I can't see how he couldn't. It would seem he has. I know I'd be happy in his shoes. She's pretty. She's intelligent. She's funny," the bartender told him. "Sounds like she has more than one fan," the guy noted outloud. "Yeah, but she doesn't realize it sometimes," the bartender informed him.

Another man walked up to the bar. "Give me a double shot of Absynia Synth," the man requested. "Ah, Fue de Joie, come back for some more, eh," the bartender asked. "Yes, you know that no place servers that Synth better than this place which is ironic considering the location," Fue commented. "Well, we may be a bit away from the original source of the synth, but that doesn't stop our blend," the bartender commented.

"Maybe you aren't true Imperialists either. Looks like you have some sort of fire," Fue commented. "At least a little. But you already know that. Besides our owner used to be from the area where the synth was made. It was a local specialty. Unfortunately, few have continued the fine art of making it," the bartender commented putting the shots in front of Fue.

Fue swigged them both down quickly. "Nothing hits the spot better than this. If I wasn't in a bar, I might be more worried about being here," Fue commented. "Probably so. After all, you are one of the most wanted individuals in all of the Empire," the guy next to him stated. "Yes, and you aren't gonna do anything about it either, are you," Fue asked patting his dagger.

"No, not at all. Why should I bother with it? They don't feed my family. They don't do much for me at all. But what can we do? We're just mainly peasants forced to live the will of the Empire," the guy commented. "You have much yet to learn. If you ever get a bit of free time, you should come meet me and learn some about what will happen in the future," Fue told him.

"I shall have to do that some time when I can, but I have to make sure my family is taken care of. Out of the little I have left, I just want something to enjoy... like a nice glass of ale," the guy said. Fue dropped 75 diners on the counter and commented, "This may be of some assistance. Stop by sometime. What's your name so I can remember it," Fue asked.

"My name is Chris Lee and thank you so much for the money," the man replied. "Not a problem. I used to know more about your situation you are in than I do now. Freedom from the Empire brings prosperity for the people," Fue commented. "Hail to freedom," Fue said lifting his empty shot glass. The bartender filled it with some more synth saying, "I can't stand seeing an empty glass in a hail."

"I am one of the only people who has the balls to say that I hate the empire. I love freedom, but the tyranny the empire has I hate. Life is filled with loves and hates. I pick my loves over my hates. Let freedom come. Mark my words today, Chris, that I will pay a blow to the Emperor soon that will strike at his very heart," Fue informed Chris. "I will not forget those words," Chris told him.

"There will come a time when the Emperor will no longer rule against the people. There will come a time when the ruler loves the people and the people love him. Let it be known that I will help that day come. Soon, very soon, the emperor will lose part of what he holds so dear," Fue said exaltingly. He raised his glass and said, "To all those that agree, a new round of drinks." Everyone rose their glass and hailed his statements.
